    2026 SUMMER READING

Reading done during the summer, like all reading experiences, enhances your development as a student and as a lifelong learner. Over the summer, you are encouraged to select books of your own choosing, or you may use the suggested author list from the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for English Language Arts and Literacy included below. To access books, consider using the Northborough Public Library or the Sora app. You are required to read at least one book over the summer.

Use the Google Form link to record all of your summer reading and complete a reflection on your favorite book. Your new ELA teacher is excited to learn about what you have read over the summer and is looking forward to working with you in the new school year!

  • June 2026

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we head into summer, we encourage all students to spend some time practicing their math skills so they can keep their learning sharp and start the new school year feeling confident.

Attached, you will find the suggested summer math assignments for your child's upcoming grade level. This year, we will be using DeltaMath for summer practice. Students can access DeltaMath using their school Google accounts.

In addition to helping students maintain their math skills, completing the summer work provides an opportunity to earn extra credit at the start of the next school year.

If your family needs assistance accessing a device for summer work, please contact the main office and we will do our best to help.

Students entering 7th and 8th grade will also continue to have access to their Carnegie Learning accounts through the middle of August. Some students have been specifically encouraged to complete any remaining work in MATHia, as this can provide valuable practice and reinforcement of important math concepts.

We hope everyone has a wonderful summer and finds a little time to keep their math skills growing!

    Sincerely,

    Christine Lincoln
    Math Curriculum Leader
    Melican Middle School

  • From Athletic Director, Michael Mocerino:

    Welcome to Interscholastic Athletics!

    Dear Melican Families,

I hope you and your family have a wonderful, relaxing, and well-deserved summer. As we begin preparing for the 2026–2027 academic and athletic year, I am filled with excitement and optimism for all that lies ahead. Each new school year brings with it new opportunities, fresh beginnings, and the chance for our students to grow both inside and outside of the classroom. I truly believe this upcoming year has the potential to be another exceptional chapter for our school and athletic programs. Middle school athletics are about so much more than competition. They are often where students first discover the value of being part of something bigger than themselves. Through sports, students build confidence, develop friendships, learn resilience, and begin to understand the importance of commitment, accountability, teamwork, and leadership. These experiences help shape young people during some of the most important years of their development.

At Melican, athletics serve as an extension of the classroom, helping students grow not only as athletes but as individuals. Whether a student is trying a sport for the first time or continuing a passion they already love, our goal is to create an environment where every student feels supported, encouraged, and connected. The strong tradition of athletics within the Northborough-Southborough community begins at the middle school level.  At Algonquin Regional High School, more than 65% of students participate in athletics across 54 teams and 27 varsity sports. The foundation for that success is built through the experiences, values, and relationships students develop at Melican and Trottier. The lessons learned here — integrity, perseverance, sportsmanship, teamwork, sacrifice, and pride — stay with students far beyond the playing field.

As Director of Athletics for Algonquin, Melican, and Trottier, I am incredibly grateful for the partnership we share with our families, coaches, educators, administrators, and community members. Your encouragement, support, and involvement help create meaningful experiences for our student-athletes and strengthen the sense of community that makes our district so special. Together, we remain committed to providing opportunities where students can challenge themselves, support one another, celebrate success, and learn from adversity, all while having fun and creating lasting memories. I encourage every family to get involved this year by attending games, supporting our teams, and celebrating the effort and growth of all our student-athletes. The energy and pride our families bring to our programs truly make a difference.

When we begin a new school year, we do so together. Let’s continue building a culture centered on character, respect, teamwork, and community.

“One athlete of character can change a team. One team of character can change a school. And one school of character can change a community.”

Thank you for your continued support of our student-athletes and our programs.

See you in the fall - Mike Mocerino - Director of Athletics
