Dear Melican Families -
We had a terrific first week of school. Students seemed happy to be back into their routines.
We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend.
After and Before School Activities: We have many offerings at the middle school. These activities will commence later this month. You will be notified when we have a list of clubs and activities.
Arrival: Upon being dropped off by buses and families in the morning, sixth graders wait in the gym, and seventh and eighth graders wait in the cafeteria. At 7:38, students visit their lockers, and proceed to their first-period class, which begins at 7:43. We ask that all students arrive at school no earlier than 7:20 and no later than 7:35.
Bags/Backpacks: Each student is assigned a locker. Students are permitted to carry bags/backpacks throughout the school day.
Breakfast and Lunch: We will be serving breakfast at no charge to students. Lunch is also free to all students this year.
Chromebooks: Please remind students to bring charged chromebooks to school each day.
Dismissal: We dismiss at 2:10. Students who are taking buses and vans home board them as they exit the building. Students who are walking or are being picked up wait in the cafeteria (seventh and eighth grades) and gym (sixth grade). Once all buses and vans have left the parking lot, walkers and students being picked up exit through the cafeteria doors. We will be directing traffic and helping students cross on crosswalks to their rides.
Handbook: Ms. Bean will be reviewing the Student Handbook with all classes over the next two weeks.
Phones, Smartwatches, Wireless Earbuds: Students may not use their phones, smar
twatches and wireless earbuds from the time they enter the building until dismissal (2:10 p.m.). If a student needs to contact home, he/she/they may come to the Main Office or the Health Office. We will continue implementing the Yondr Pouch Program to promote a personal device free learning environment for our students to support their academic, social, and emotional growth and development. All personal devices are locked in pouches for the school day, and students keep the pouches with them. In cases of emergency, the pouches can be cut open.
If your child(ren) will not be bringing smart watches, phones, wireless earbuds, etc. to school this year, please complete this form.
Respectfully,
Michelle T. Karb, Principal
Gretchen M. Bean, Assistant Principal
