Dear Melican Families,
We are writing to share an upcoming change in our Yondr program. First, we have noticed a significant uptick in students taking our Yondr pouches home with them - either intentionally or unintentionally, and/or destroying or damaging them. While we are pleased with the success we have had in providing our students with a “cell phone-free” school day, the significant loss in number of pouches that we have to use as a community has led to us needing to modify our Yondr pouch procedure.
Starting on Wednesday, instead of taking a community pouch in the morning, using it for the day, and returning it at the end of the day, we will assign an individual pouch to each student. On Wednesday morning, students will start their day in their Section Connection classrooms. The teachers there will assign a pouch to each student whose family has reported that they do, in fact, have a device that they bring to and from school. Your child will use the same pouch each day for the rest of the school year and return it to us on the last day of school. We ask that you help by reminding your child to use the pouch responsibly, avoid intentionally damaging it, and keep careful track of it. If your child is assigned a pouch that does not function properly, please let us know, and we will replace it.
If your child comes to school without their pouch, they will be given an envelope. They will put the device in the envelope, and the envelope will be left in the office for the day. Your child can pick it up when they leave school at the end of the day. If your child intentionally damages, destroys or loses their pouch, may will be billed for the replacement pouch ($30.00).
We feel strongly that using Yondr pouches at Melican has improved our students’ learning experience. We want to continue to provide “cell phone-free” school days and thank you for your support in this change in our procedure.
Finally, if your child has any extra pouches in their backpacks or at home, please encourage them to return them to the school office.
Please feel free to contact Gretchen Bean with any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Michelle T. Karb, Principal
