Dear Melican Families -

We are proud of our musicians and student athletes.

Our Jazz Band and Stage Band worked with visiting trombonist and educator, Craig Robbins, on Wednesday and then performed Wednesday night for our 28th Annual Jazz Night Concert. They sounded wonderful!

Our basketball teams continue to compete and grow as student athletes.

Please see the information below from Superintendent Martineau regarding the District's Strategic Plan.

SURVEY LINK

The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough is reauthorizing its Strategic Plan, Vision 2026: Educate, Inspire, and Challenge. First approved in the spring of 2021, this plan has guided the District’s priorities and actions over the past several years. As we look ahead, it is time to chart the course for the next six years—and we invite our community to help shape that future.

This fall and winter, the District is collecting input from students, families, staff, and community members through multiple avenues, including a community-wide survey. The survey mirrors the version administered in January 2021, allowing for a comparison of new feedback with the original baseline data. These insights will inform the goals, priorities, and key actions that will define the next phase of the District’s Strategic Plan.

As part of this process, citizens are invited to participate in one of our upcoming Strategic Planning Sessions. Each session will explore the landscape students will encounter in the future—careers, higher education, and societal expectations. Together, we will identify the habits, skills, and knowledge that will empower our graduates to thrive in a complex, rapidly changing world.

Before completing the survey, we encourage all residents to review the current Strategic Plan – Vision 2026: Educate, Inspire, and Challenge.

NURSING CORNER

Sixth Grade Parents: Massachusetts requires students entering 7th grade to have documentation of a current physical (dated after 7-1-25), Tdap (Tetanus booster) and a Meningitis immunization on file at the school.  Please send in the documentation if your child has already had these requirements.  If you have already sent in the documents then there is no need to send them in again.  When your child completes these requirements, please send them into the Health Office.  They can be sent by fax ( 508) 501-7811, email mrogers@nsboro.k12.ma.us or  with your child. If you have any questions then please reach out to us.

Additionally:

The district continues to see an increase in the number of confirmed flu and influenza-like illnesses.

If symptomatic, please stay home and contact the school nurse. Flu signs and symptoms usually come on suddenly. If you have concerns about any symptoms or if there are any underlying chronic health conditions, please immediately contact your health care provider

People who are sick with flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:

  • Fever*/feeling feverish or chills

  • Cough

  • Sore throat

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headaches

  • Fatigue (tiredness)

  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

**It’s important to note that not everyone with the flu will have a fever.

Please continue to inform the school nurse of any flu diagnosis (or any other respiratory illness) and please follow our District Illness Guidelines for return to school criteria.

After having the flu or influenza-like illness, to return to school both the following must be true: fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication AND the stamina to participate in an entire school day.

Please continue to promote good hygiene and healthy habits.

  • Good hygiene: Encourage regular handwashing, cough/sneeze into your arm, and avoid touching your face/mouth especially during cold and flu season, to reduce the spread of germs.

  • Healthy habits: Make sure to get enough rest, eat a balanced diet, and stay hydrated to strengthen your immune system.
