Dear Melican Families -

Caregiver-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 5. This will be an early release day for students, with dismissal at 10:45 a.m. Conferences will be scheduled from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. Conference sign-up emails will come through ParentSquare on Tuesday, February 24 at 6:00 p.m.

Quarter 2 Report Cards were shared on February 4. Please submit your digital signature indicating that you have viewed the report card.

We have a new RISE teacher starting after February Vacation, taking the place of Patrick Dineen. Lisa Corazzini will begin at Melican on February 23.

Katherine Sarasin will continue to teach Steven Knight’s classes through the rest of the school year. She has been a building-based substitute for us for the past two years, and has been covering Steven Knight’s classes since the New Year. Katherine is a licensed ELA teacher.

All eighth grade students who take a world language will be taking the AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages) Test on March 4 and 5 during the first three periods of those days. The email we sent on February 4, stated that the test was on March 3 and 4.

Families may have received emails from Jostens about this year’s yearbook, and we want to reassure you that these messages are legitimate. If you haven’t ordered a yearbook yet, we encourage you to do so soon. Yearbooks can be purchased directly through the Jostens email or by using the ordering link on our school website.

Please remind students to bring charged chromebooks to school each day. We are running out of loaners throughout each day, and we want students to be prepared to engage in learning.

Please reach out with any questions.

Respectfully,

Michelle T. Karb, Principal

Gretchen M. Bean, Assistant Principal

Spring Sports

                                  Welcome to Interscholastic Athletics!

Dear Middle School Students and Families,

Welcome to another exciting athletic season! I am delighted to welcome each of you as we begin a new season filled with opportunity, growth, and memorable experiences. Athletics are truly a cornerstone of the Algonquin community, with more than 65% of our students participating in sports. With 27 varsity programs and 54 teams, Algonquin Athletics continues to be recognized among the finest programs in the state.

The strength of our program comes from the remarkable dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, along with the unwavering support of our administration, school committee, and families. Together, we create an environment where excellence thrives both on and off the field.

Through participation in Athletics, students learn far more than the skills of the game. They develop character, leadership, resilience, and a strong sense of teamwork while embracing the values of honesty, integrity, perseverance, sacrifice, and pride. My years within the Algonquin academic and athletic community have reinforced my belief in the power of a supportive network of educators, coaches, parents, administrators, and community members working together to elevate our students.

As Director of Athletics, I am honored to lead the athletic programs at Algonquin Regional High School and Melican and Trottier Middle Schools. I look forward to continuing to build a culture of unity, school spirit, and excellence. Guided by our core values of Teamwork, Academic Achievement, and Sportsmanship, we remain committed to creating an environment where “together, everyone achieves more” (T.E.A.M.).

I encourage every student to consider joining one of our programs in the spring. Athletics provide a unique opportunity to build friendships, develop confidence, compete at a high level, and—most importantly—have fun. Let’s make this season one of growth, achievement, and shared pride.

“One athlete of character can change a team, one team of character can change a school, and one school of character can change a community.”

See you this spring!

Mike Mocerino

District Strategic Plan

The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough is reauthorizing its Strategic Plan, Vision 2026: Educate, Inspire, and Challenge. First approved in the spring of 2021, this plan has guided the District’s priorities and actions over the past several years. As we look ahead, it is time to chart the course for the next six years - and we invite our community to help shape that future.

This fall and winter, the District is collecting input from students, families, staff, and community members through multiple avenues, including a community-wide survey. The survey mirrors the January 2021 version, allowing comparison of new feedback with the original baseline data. These insights will inform the goals, priorities, and key actions that will define the next phase of the District’s Strategic Plan.

Your participation in the survey is greatly appreciated. Survey Link
