Melican Memo | May 1, 2026

|
|
Dear Melican Families -
We are ready to start our last term which can be some of the most exciting weeks of our school year! We have included most remaining events and activities in the Important Dates section of this Memo. We will share a separate email to eighth grade families when we get closer to the Farewell Dance and Graduation.
Today is School Lunch Hero Day. We are thankful for the hard work of our cafeteria staff! The Melican PTO gifted each staff member with a new Melican hat, and our students wrote messages on large cards. We are looking forward to next week which is our whole staff appreciation week.
On a different note, earlier this year, our students participated in the MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey. We are in the process of analyzing the data and considering implications for our work. One topic that was surveyed is substance use and vaping. We have included some resources to assist families who may need resources to support their children.
Thank you for partnering with us as we enjoy the final stretch of the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Please reach out with any questions.
Respectfully,
Michelle T. Karb, Principal
Gretchen M. Bean, Assistant Principal
Thank you to our cafeteria staff, from left to right Stephen Palmer, Shayna Smick, Verona Porter, Brian Lawrence, Amira Illoul, Sandra Yee, Linda McHugh, Michelle Vieira

 Dear Northborough Community Member,
Peaslee Building Committee Survey Link
The Town is at an important point in planning for the future of Peaslee Elementary School. Originally constructed in 1962, the building's core systems are beyond their lifespan and require significant investment. The decisions ahead will have long-term implications for our students, schools, and the broader community.
Northborough is partnering with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), which has invited the Town to participate in its Core Building Program. Through this partnership, MSBA is expected to reimburse approximately 48.68% of eligible project costs, representing a substantial opportunity to improve school facilities with state support. Northborough’s most recent MSBA partnership, the Lincoln Street Elementary School project in 2011, received 52.88% reimbursement. To learn more about MSBA, please visit the MSBA website.
The Town and School District are currently evaluating potential grade configurations for the Public Schools of Northborough, including maintaining the existing elementary neighborhood school model or exploring elementary grade-span consolidation. Each grade configuration option presents different educational, operational, and financial considerations.
This survey is designed for the Peaslee Building Committee to better understand what matters most to the Northborough community, particularly regarding educational programming, grade configuration, and the overall cost and impact on taxpayers. Your input will play an important role in informing the direction of this project.
